To help us plan, we are asking that everyone planning on attending to fill out the Google Form below.  We will have groups of 10-15 people go through at a time, and this will help us ensure short wait times!  Please go to  https://tinyurl.com/tsshntk to sign up and request a time!

MS/HS Shedd Aquarium Trip

Middle school/High School students will be traveling to Shedd Aquarium tomorrow -  Friday, February 28th. We are leaving no later than 6am and are tentatively scheduled to arrive back at the school around 5:30pm.  Students must bring a sack lunch with disposable items- please do not send reusable containers.

**Students must wear CLA gear (shirts/hoodies) that must be visible at all times.  Students not wearing CLA gear at the time of departure will not attend the trip. There will not be a way for students to obtain a shirt that morning, so plan accordingly.**

From the Principal's Desk

I was gone for a couple of days last week, and enjoyed a short vacation in South Carolina, reconnecting with friends from my home in Pennsylvania.  In chapel this week, I shared with the students how enjoyable it was to spend time fellowshiping with friends who share my faith, and who challenge me as a person, father, and friend.  Looking forward to how some of our students, after spending years together at CLA, will be able to count lifelong friendships as one of the benefits of their CLA experience!

Blessings,

        Mr. Horning

From the Principal's Desk

Our chapel series for the past 6 weeks has been about building a foundation under the light (or lighthouse) that we each try to shine for Jesus.  I’d encourage you to ask your kids about what that foundation contains. We talked about the Word of God, Forgiveness, Fellowship, Prayer, and Sharing with others.  If we all continue to build that foundation, our light will shine greater for Jesus every day!

Blessings,  Mr. Horning

We will also need donations of items for the students to buy.  This year, the store will be for the K-4th grade students and the 5th-8th grade students will be able to earn a gift card if they meet a pre-determined point goal. Please contact Mrs. Gibson at [email protected] if you have any questions or are able to help!

What a week this has been.  We are grateful that it appears we are on the rebound from all the illness that has been rumbling through our school.  If we continue to be cautious and watchful for symptoms, we should be able to keep moving in a healthy direction. I am thankful for the healing that God provides, and for the grace He affords us as we do our best to keep our children healthy.

Blessings!

I just wanted to take an opportunity today, to say “thank you” to our CLA family… several conversations I’ve had over the past week regarding situations or struggles in the education world have helped me, once again, to realize the amazing group of families we have here at our school.  What a blessing to share the educational and spiritual journey with our CLA family!

This week we began a chapel series about having a foundation to stand upon.  We began with the Word of God. It is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path… we are blessed when we follow God’s Word… (Psalm 119).  Let us all remind ourselves and our children and families of the importance of standing on the promises in His Word!

I am reminded, and want to remind our entire CLA family, as we begin a new semester and a new calendar year together, that we are called to be a light.  In our world there certainly is a lot of darkness, uncertainty, and anxiety. But we have the opportunity each day to shine a light into our world - the Light of Jesus, our HOPE!  Shine brightly, my friends, firmly planted on the foundation we find in God’s Word.

From the Principal's Desk

It is with a renewed sense of great JOY and HOPE each year that we celebrate the birth of Jesus.  Two thoughts that I have recently brought to mind, which give me great HOPE… First, each of us has been placed where we are at by God’s providence, with a purpose to fulfill (just as Adam was placed in the garden - Genesis 2). Secondly, the world (this temporary one we live in) and its desires, troubles, temptations and struggles will pass away - so our hope should be focused on eternity (1 John 2:17).  May the God of HOPE sustain you as you shine your light, fulfill your purpose, and celebrate Jesus’ birth this Christmas.

Merry Christmas!

CHRISTMAS PROGRAM

Looking forward to seeing the school community gather tonight to CELEBRATE JESUS’ BIRTH!

CALL TIMES AND DRESS FOR THE PROGRAM:

5th-8th grade students will need to arrive dressed in all black by 5:00pm to eat prior to the program. Students will have time to change into costumes/other clothes after serving. Be sure to bring winter wear/jackets/vests for your costume for the program!

Band students will need to be ready for warmups at 6:30pm

K - 4th grade will need to meet in the music room at 6:40pm. Students are to wear dress clothes or Christmas-y clothing. No jeans, flip flops, sweatpants, athletic gear, etc.

After School - reminders

We want to remind all families that we are not able to provide any after-school supervision outside (playground and parking lot area) for students that are not signed in to our after-school daycare. We have noticed that there has been a growing number of students (many who live nearby) who are on school grounds after hours. We want to encourage families that live close by to have children head home after school. Students who have been dismissed should not return inside the school building unless they have scheduled time with teachers or are enrolled in daycare. Thank you.

From the Principal's Desk

What an exciting day… as I sit in my office completing this Lion Tales, the sounds of our K-4 students rehearsing… “Glo-oo-oo-ria!” are wafting through the school building. Let’s all remember to not only KEEP Jesus at the center of our celebrations this year, but also to MAKE JESUS KNOWN to all around us!

In Christ,

Mr. Horning

From the Principal's Desk

“Peace on earth, goodwill to all!”  This familiar phrase brought some new meaning to me recently, as our chapel series (the Beatitudes) this week focused upon “blessed are the peacemakers.”  While I am assured that we will not see complete peace on our earth, as we do our best to be peacemakers and to make things right with those around us, we can begin to more fully understand what it means to be a child of God.  May we each attempt, in our own little world, to be Christlike and to be at peace with those around us!

In Christ,

Mr. Horning
