From the Principal's Desk

It is with a renewed sense of great JOY and HOPE each year that we celebrate the birth of Jesus.  Two thoughts that I have recently brought to mind, which give me great HOPE… First, each of us has been placed where we are at by God’s providence, with a purpose to fulfill (just as Adam was placed in the garden - Genesis 2). Secondly, the world (this temporary one we live in) and its desires, troubles, temptations and struggles will pass away - so our hope should be focused on eternity (1 John 2:17).  May the God of HOPE sustain you as you shine your light, fulfill your purpose, and celebrate Jesus’ birth this Christmas.

Merry Christmas!

CHRISTMAS PROGRAM

Looking forward to seeing the school community gather tonight to CELEBRATE JESUS’ BIRTH!

CALL TIMES AND DRESS FOR THE PROGRAM:

5th-8th grade students will need to arrive dressed in all black by 5:00pm to eat prior to the program. Students will have time to change into costumes/other clothes after serving. Be sure to bring winter wear/jackets/vests for your costume for the program!

Band students will need to be ready for warmups at 6:30pm

K - 4th grade will need to meet in the music room at 6:40pm. Students are to wear dress clothes or Christmas-y clothing. No jeans, flip flops, sweatpants, athletic gear, etc.

After School - reminders

We want to remind all families that we are not able to provide any after-school supervision outside (playground and parking lot area) for students that are not signed in to our after-school daycare. We have noticed that there has been a growing number of students (many who live nearby) who are on school grounds after hours. We want to encourage families that live close by to have children head home after school. Students who have been dismissed should not return inside the school building unless they have scheduled time with teachers or are enrolled in daycare. Thank you.

From the Principal's Desk

What an exciting day… as I sit in my office completing this Lion Tales, the sounds of our K-4 students rehearsing… “Glo-oo-oo-ria!” are wafting through the school building. Let’s all remember to not only KEEP Jesus at the center of our celebrations this year, but also to MAKE JESUS KNOWN to all around us!

In Christ,

Mr. Horning

From the Principal's Desk

“Peace on earth, goodwill to all!”  This familiar phrase brought some new meaning to me recently, as our chapel series (the Beatitudes) this week focused upon “blessed are the peacemakers.”  While I am assured that we will not see complete peace on our earth, as we do our best to be peacemakers and to make things right with those around us, we can begin to more fully understand what it means to be a child of God.  May we each attempt, in our own little world, to be Christlike and to be at peace with those around us!

In Christ,

Mr. Horning

Outdoor Recess with Snow on the ground

We try to go outside for recess if at all possible.  The only two conditions that hold us back from outdoor recess are rain and wind chill.  We will go outside most of the winter if these two conditions allow. If there is snow on the ground, ONLY students who have appropriate snow gear (boots, gloves, hats, coats) will be allowed to go in the snow.  Those without gear will be required to stay on the hard surfaces out of the snow. PLEASE send warm outdoor gear through the entire winter!

From the Principal's Desk

I am thankful that God has given us an objective knowledge of right and wrong! I was blessed to substitute in our high school Bible class this week, and as we shared together about this concept from Romans 2, a sense of agreement among the students was such a blessing.  I am THANKFUL!

In Christ,

Mr. Horning

From the Principal's Desk

“Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.”  This promise and reminder from Matthew 5 was our focus for chapel this week.  I am so grateful for the mercy given to me by my Lord and Savior. My prayer is that we would all extend that same mercy to others as we go about our daily life.

In Christ,

LIFE DAYS WAS A GREAT SUCCESS!

Each year, the community of Christian Life Academy gathers to celebrate and support the school. This event, held last weekend (November 1-2), is called Life Days.  Our 12th annual event, Life Days 2019, was one of our most successful ever. This means that we are closing the gap, as our school budget requires, between tuition paid by families and the cost of education.  THANK YOU to all who participated. Below you will find some of the “By the Numbers” information from Life Days 2019.

Life Days 2019 - preliminary report

Total money raised - over $50,000

Silent and Live Auction income - over $25,000 (highest item - raspberry pie - $6,750)

Monetary Direct Donations - over $16,000 (from more than two dozen individuals and businesses)

Meals/Food income - Friday night over $700...Saturday breakfast nearly $900...Pork Chops nearly $3900

Children’s Auctions (tickets and live auction) - over $750

CLA was truly blessed by the celebration

and funds raised at Life Days 2019!

From the Principal's Desk

One of my favorite parts of Life Days is observing (and joining in with) all of the conversations and encouragement going on amongst our CLA family.  By some (not very mathematical) calculations, it is likely that over 500 people were involved over the weekend. Sitting at tables, eating together, telling stories, simply sharing life together.  I truly believe that this is an example of what Jesus wants us to do as Christ-followers - to live life together. And as we follow in His footsteps, endeavoring to make Him known, I can see His blessing upon our school.  Thank you, CLA community, for another great Life Days!

In Christ,

Mr. Horning

Pocket Change War - PTF fundraiser - UPDATE

Congratulations to the 3rd and 4th grade class, winning EVERY week of the pocket change Fundraiser!  Over $1,000 of change was collected over the four weeks, bringing in much needed funds to support our classrooms and student activities.  Thank You to all who participated!

From the Principal's Desk

In advance of all the official LIFE DAYS 2019 activities, I just want to say a big “THANKS” to all who have been so involved ahead of time in the pre-planning and organization for this huge event.  From soliciting donations, to planning activities, from hanging up a poster to organizing an entire meal, every volunteer is so important. This is the kind of event that defines who we are as a community.  It reminds me of the family of God working together to love and serve others. I’m looking forward to a fun weekend with all of you!

From the Principal's Desk

As we have begun a new series in chapel. we were talking about what it means to be “blessed.”  Being blessed is more than just being happy! It means that we know that we can look to our Savior in all circumstances, and know that God is our comfort, our provider, our caretaker.  Being blessed reminds us that throughout our life, we are not defined by what’s happening, but by who we are in Christ!

In Christ,

Next week will be an “official” opportunity for parents and teachers to conference about how the school year is going for the students.  I appreciate this time, when I see our staff and parents sit down together, with the good of the student in the center of the conversation.  How satisfying to know that we all want to see success for all of our students, and that we can agree together that God can guide us through how to find that success!

From the Principal's Desk

With a 4-day weekend coming up, cool weather upon us, and fields being harvested, I’m amazed that we have already completed one quarter of our school year.  To me, it has seemed like a whirlwind! But I’m resting in the fact that we have amazing teachers, supportive parents, and great students here at CLA, and that God is moving - even in a whirlwind.  Or maybe “especially” in a whirlwind! Thanks again, families, for walking side-by-side with our staff and school board. Together, with God leading, we will see miracles happen!

In Christ,

Mr. Horning
