Dec 23-Jan 5 Christmas Break - No School

Wed, January 6 School Resumes

Covid-19 and the Holidays… Please do continue to be cautious about contact with others outside of your household.  If you are traveling or having out-of-town guests in your home over the Christmas holidays, we are encouraging you to keep kids home from school for the week following the gathering.  We will support your students remotely in this situation.  We trust families to make good decisions, so we will not be mandating a school closure as some schools have done.  But please do help us keep all of our students and staff safe and able to continue to learn together in-person!  Thank you to families who were attentive to this detail over Thanksgiving.  If you have any questions, or would be able to inform us (soon) about Christmas travel plans that might mean remote learning for your children, please let us know!

WEATHER REMINDERS: As the weather changes, please be sure to have children come to school with appropriate outdoor weather gear!  Hats, coats, gloves as it gets colder… WE DO GO OUTSIDE for recess times and fresh air.

>>> IF/WHEN SEVERE WEATHER ARRIVES<<<  We will announce any changes (closure, late start, etc) by sending EMAILS to all families through Gradelink, posting announcements on FACEBOOK both publicly and in the Lions’ Den parent group, and also posting on the local TV WEBSITES. Please do not call or text the school or staff about delays or closures, but check these sources first!  In general, we follow the Olympia school district, but this may be different this year depending on the remote or in-person status of our school and others surrounding Hopedale!

WE ENCOURAGE PROMPT ARRIVAL for school!

The school doors open at 8:15 each day, and we have allowed for a 15-minute arrival window. SCHOOL BEGINS AT 8:30!  The drop-off area sometimes gets congested in the 8:25-8:30 time frame, so we are encouraging families to arrive a few minutes earlier if possible.  If more families arrive early, it helps the whole process! If everyone arrives in the 8:15-8:25 window, teachers are able to start the day at 8:30.  Thank you for your attention to this!

Generosity Project- Middle school/High School

If you haven't heard about it, I wanted to share a great thing that's going on in our middle school and high school. The focus on "generosity" this month has led to a project where the school has given each MS/HS student $5 of seed money to help grow into a generous contribution to a local need. Check out the school's facebook page for some details, but it's amazing how students have jumped in, raising now hundreds of dollars for local needs like shelters, missions, and ministries. It's great to see faith in action!

From The Principal’s Desk…

As we have been discussing in chapels these last few weeks, we look forward in anticipation of celebrating Christ’s birth.  We have asked “what does the Bible say about...hope, faith, love…”  We have an amazing HOPE to share with others.  We have FAITH that gives us assurance of what we cannot see, but we can believe that God LOVES us so much he would send His Son Jesus - for our salvation!  What a blessed gift, a celebration!  As we approach Christmas, I pray that you will approach it with excitement that Faith, Hope and Love brings to your life.  We love sharing this with our students and the CLA community!

In Christ,

  • Mr. Horning
