“POCKET CHANGE WARS!”
PTF fundraiser Continues - NICKELS next week!
The next three weeks… Pocket Change Wars will continue. Watch the brief introduction video from Mr. Horning at this link https://youtu.be/iaiKYjMxUSY. This is organized by Parent-Teacher Fellowship (PTF). Money raised will help to support classroom and teacher needs at CLA. The students are competing for their TEAMS - the team that brings in the most coins each week gets a prize. Each week, students should bring in a different coin:
Week 1 - Pennies
9/14 through 9/18
Week 2 - Nickels
9/21 through 9/25
Week 3 - Dimes
9/28 through 10/2
Week 4 - Quarters
10/5 through 10/9
So empty those pockets, search the cushions of the sofa, ask grandma and grandpa to do the same…. and get in on the Pocket Change Wars!
Parent-Teacher Fellowship NEEDS YOU! Parents, get involved with PTF - come to the monthly PTF meeting… MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 21 from 7-7:30 pm. There will be a zoom link available to join remotely. Find out what’s going on and how YOU can get involved!
Winter Sports information…
CLA offers sports for many age levels. We continue to work through the details of what winter sports will look like during these times, but we will be conducting some polls (coming soon) about participation to help determine scheduling. Sports that are likely or considered for the winter:
Elementary (grades 3-6) basketball High School Boys Basketball Cheerleading
Junior High (grades 6-8) basketball High School Girls Basketball
If your child is interested in any of these, keep your eyes open for information coming up soon. We also did some informal polling at school this week.
Technology Corner
Having Tech Issues? Now that our students and teachers have “hit their stride” in the school year, this is a reminder that if you have technology issues - chromebook issues, struggling to get the digital communication from school, or anything else tech-related, please ask for help! We have multiple staff members that can help get these issues solved. Just ask!
Beware - Be in tune with your kids’ safety online - We use GoGuardian and Bark here at school as ways to keep our students safe online with monitoring of online time. One benefit of this is that Bark also gives us regular communication and reminders about issues they are finding. Recently Bark gave us an update about recent facebook and tiktok postings of violence - in particular a video circulating among these social media apps of a suicide. We encourage parents to stay tuned in to children’s online and social media to “guard their hearts and minds” as well as possible. Want to know more? Mrs. Stribling or Mr. Horning would be glad to talk with you!
From the Principal's Desk
Have you shared encouragement with a fellow CLA family recently? That’s one of the facets of the CLA community that I have always loved. Our families share many things in common - more than just the fact that we have students attending school together. We have similar needs, similar challenges. We have similar activities in the community. Each of our families is unique, of course, but we also can walk with and encourage each other. Thank you to the ones who have recently given my family encouragement. It is my hope that we can share our strength, courage and ENCOURAGEMENT with our fellow CLA families! “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Blessings,
Mr. Horning
