Recently the paper forms for registration for the 2021-2022 academic year were sent home, and registration for returning and new families began on Monday, February 1.  We will also be offering individualized visits to new prospective families.  The best advertisement for the school is word of mouth, so we ask that you pass this information on to friends and family that may be interested in a Christian Life Academy education!  And, of course, get your family registered early for next year…. early/discounted registration goes through March 19th.

Digital Natives presentation - TONIGHT - February 11th, 6:30pm via Zoom

With the move to online learning over the past year, staff at CLA have seen a significant increase in students' online activity, especially in relation to search queries, videos watched, and material that is consumed online. As a school that desires to partner with parents and families, staff members are also having increased conversations with parents about how to handle situations involving questionable content, especially as parents are raising digital natives who spend a large amount of time online participating in various social media platforms. If you are interested in learning more about how your children interact with the internet or if you are looking for ways to engage in potentially difficult conversations with your child about his/her online activities, this is the study for you!

CLA will be hosting a 1 hour Zoom presentation based off the study Digital Natives by Bryan Roberts and Heather Kolb.  To attend, please register here: https://forms.gle/bTnYRiZS2deaR5ba6If you are unable to attend but would still like to see the presentation, please go ahead and register- a link to the recording will be sent to you (but only if YOU REGISTER!).

WEATHER REMINDERS:

Please be sure to have children come to school with appropriate outdoor weather gear!  Hats, coats, gloves and long pants… >>> IF/WHEN SEVERE WEATHER ARRIVES<<<  We will announce any changes (closure, late start, etc) by sending EMAILS to all families through Gradelink, posting announcements on FACEBOOK both publicly and in the Lions’ Den parent group, and also posting on the local TV WEBSITES. Please do not call or text the school or staff about delays or closures, but check these sources first!

From The Principal’s Desk…

Have a wonderful extended weekend!  We often think of “Love” as associated with Feb 14 (Valentine’s Day).... but I encourage you to remember GOD is LOVE!  It is only through God’s love that we can truly understand what love is.  I would encourage you to read in I John…. in particular I John 4:7-8.  Have a “lovely” weekend!

In Christ,

Mr. Horning

From The Principal’s Desk…

February is a month (with Valentine’s Day right in the middle) where our thoughts turn to “love.”  For this month, let’s consider God’s love!  We are now using I Corinthians 13 the “love is…” chapter to remember how God represents all of the aspects of love.  Take some time this month to read through this with your children, and remember GOD is LOVE!

In Christ,

Mr. Horning

We completed our January theme “Trust and Obey” in chapels.  It was a joy to share with the students what the Word says about walking in the light of God’s word, side-by-side… May we all continue to be examples to a watching world what it truly means to trust God and obey His direction for our lives!

In Christ,

From The Principal’s Desk…

I have a new favorite song… it turns out it’s a favorite of other teachers here at CLA as well, as my son tells me it’s been a part of devotional worship time in middle school… “Rise Up (Lazarus)” by Cain. I’d encourage you to take a listen sometime - a careful listen.  God offers saving grace and  that offer of grace calls out to us.  He calls us to step out of our darkness that we have become comfortable in… and rise up and follow HIM!  May we together do just that - today, this week - “rise up!”

In Christ,

Mr. Horning

From The Principal’s Desk…

“Trust and Obey.” These two words have become quite important over the past year.  Not that trusting and obeying God was not important in the past, but because the uncertainty of our world seems to have been more evident recently.  The message of this hymn: “When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word, what a glory He sheds on our way…” gives me hope as we continue on in the school year.  And the words of the hymn will be the basis for our chapels during January as well.  Will you pray with me that we can truly “walk with the Lord” together in 2021?! I’m glad to share the journey with you!

In Christ,

  • Mr. Horning

UPCOMING DATES

Tues, December 22 Early Dismissal (11:30) - Beginning of Christmas Break

Dec 23-Jan 5 Christmas Break - No School

Wed, January 6 School Resumes (regular full day of school)

Don’t forget the reason for the season!

In the hustle and bustle - which is different this year than many - let’s all remember to celebrate the birth of Jesus extravagantly!  He was sent to SAVE US!  What an amazing reason to celebrate.

Covid-19 and the Holidays

Please do continue to be cautious about contact with others outside of your household.  If you are traveling or having out-of-town guests in your home over the Christmas holidays, we are encouraging you to keep kids home from school for the week following the gathering.  We will support your students remotely in this situation.  We trust families to make good decisions, so we will not be mandating a school closure as some schools have done.  But please do help us keep all of our students and staff safe and able to continue to learn together in-person!  Thank you to families who were attentive to this detail over Thanksgiving.  If you have any questions, or would be able to inform us (soon) about Christmas travel plans that might mean remote learning for your children, please let us know!

WEATHER REMINDERS:

As the weather changes, please be sure to have children come to school with appropriate outdoor weather gear!  Hats, coats, gloves as it gets colder… WE DO GO OUTSIDE for recess times and fresh air.

>>> IF/WHEN SEVERE WEATHER ARRIVES<<<  We will announce any changes (closure, late start, etc) by sending EMAILS to all families through Gradelink, posting announcements on FACEBOOK both publicly and in the Lions’ Den parent group, and also posting on the local TV WEBSITES. From The Principal’s Desk…

We are praising God that we have now (nearly) completed one semester of school for the 2020-21 school year.  Just five months ago, that seemed like a huge challenge.  And, indeed, it has been a challenge.  But thanks to an amazing staff and wonderful families, working together, our students have had a great semester.  It has been different, for sure.  But the Lord has continued to carry us through challenging times, and He will continue to carry us.  Praise be to the Lord our Savior!

In Christ,

Mr. Horning

WE ENCOURAGE PROMPT ARRIVAL for school!

The school doors open at 8:15 each day, and we have allowed for a 15-minute arrival window. SCHOOL BEGINS AT 8:30!  The drop-off area sometimes gets congested in the 8:25-8:30 time frame, so we are encouraging families to arrive a few minutes earlier if possible.  If more families arrive early, it helps the whole process! If everyone arrives in the 8:15-8:25 window, teachers are able to start the day at 8:30.  Thank you for your attention to this!

Generosity Project- Middle school/High School

If you haven't heard about it, I wanted to share a great thing that's going on in our middle school and high school. The focus on "generosity" this month has led to a project where the school has given each MS/HS student $5 of seed money to help grow into a generous contribution to a local need. Check out the school's facebook page for some details, but it's amazing how students have jumped in, raising now hundreds of dollars for local needs like shelters, missions, and ministries. It's great to see faith in action!

From The Principal’s Desk…

As we have been discussing in chapels these last few weeks, we look forward in anticipation of celebrating Christ’s birth.  We have asked “what does the Bible say about...hope, faith, love…”  We have an amazing HOPE to share with others.  We have FAITH that gives us assurance of what we cannot see, but we can believe that God LOVES us so much he would send His Son Jesus - for our salvation!  What a blessed gift, a celebration!  As we approach Christmas, I pray that you will approach it with excitement that Faith, Hope and Love brings to your life.  We love sharing this with our students and the CLA community!

In Christ,

  • Mr. Horning

PTF MEETING DATE: Please note, the CLA PTF (Parent Teacher Fellowship) Zoom meeting has been moved to Monday, November 23 at 7 pm. A zoom link will be provided prior to the meeting.

From The Principal’s Desk…

Over the past week, we have seen a lot going on with local schools needing to go remote, cases of Covid-19 and quarantines on the rise, and just recently our first cases for CLA students.  It feels much “closer to home” than it did several weeks ago.  CLA’s current numbers include two students that have had a positive Covid-19 test, thankfully with very little contact at school.  We have 8 students and one staff person in quarantine due to contacts in or outside of school, and our high school has moved to remote learning for a short time.  We are thankful for God’s provision and protection.

Our staff has been planning for the time when we need to adjust school-wide, and today we are sending some information about these plans.  Please note, at this time we will NOT be making a change. At some point, we may need to reduce the possibility of transmission by moving to smaller groups and less time at school.  Please know that we want to have full in-person learning happening at CLA… but that we also will be careful and cautious for the safety of our students and staff. At any time, feel free to talk with me about this!
